The Lokal is a craft‑led, female‑designed meat boutique rooted in one simple belief: taste has a maker.

We exist to make generational craftsmanship visible again.  Celebrating the farmers (our mother), producers and artisans whose quiet commitment to doing things properly shapes how food truly tastes. Our shop brings together ethically raised farm meats, thoughtfully crafted deli produce, pantry staples and beautifully made lifestyle pieces, all chosen for their provenance, integrity and consistency of quality.

At The Lokal, meat is not anonymous. Our selection focuses on Brangus beef, Free State lamb and pasture-raised chicken.  All meats are free‑range, pasture‑raised, free of hormones and routine antibiotics from our family farm located in the Eastern Free State.  Alongside this sits a curated deli and pantry of small‑batch accompaniments - from salts and rubs to ready made meals and sauces - designed to make everyday cooking easier without ever compromising on where things come from or how they’re made.

Shopping at The Lokal is a guided, welcoming experience. We replace the cold, clinical feel of traditional butcheries with an elegant farmhouse environment - calm, confident and considered. Customers are invited to slow down, ask questions and discover the stories behind what they’re buying, whether it’s a cut of meat, a crafted butter or a hand‑made board meant for sharing.

Nine Yards is the natural home for The Lokal. As a heritage‑rooted, garden‑led precinct built around community and independent makers, it reflects everything we stand for - connection, craftsmanship and conscious consumption. Together, we bring a new kind of food culture to the city: one that honours land and lineage, supports local artisans and turns everyday shopping into something more meaningful.
