Khumalo Turpin (Kalashnikovv)
Art Gallery
Khumalo Turpin is a contemporary art curator and creative professional associated with Kalashnikovv Gallery, an influential Johannesburg-based art platform known for championing progressive, boundary-pushing work by emerging and established artists. Kalashnikovv was founded in 2013 as an alternative to traditional “white cube” gallery spaces, emphasising accessibility, socio-political engagement and diverse artistic voices.
Under this ethos, Turpin has been involved in presenting a wide spectrum of visual arts projects and exhibitions that explore contemporary ideas and cultural narratives. His work aligns with a commitment to expanding platforms for artistic expression and fostering community engagement within the visual arts.
Pipeline Art Gallery (as featured on the Nine-Yards tenant page) is presented as a contemporary creative space dedicated to showcasing both emerging and established artists across various mediums, providing an inspiring venue for exhibitions, collaborations and community engagement within the visual arts sphere.
Together, Turpin’s involvement with these initiatives reflects a dynamic engagement with contemporary art practice, helping elevate and contextualise diverse artistic voices within Johannesburg’s cultural landscape and beyond.
